Welcome to the Aether Suite

Welcome to the Aether Suite

So… where to start? Basically, I nixed Knox as a quest/story mod, because the more I looked into getting where I wanted to go, the more I realised I was going to run out of time long before I got finished making it. I didn’t want to just keep teasing it with little updates here and there, and then never even release it.

However, I wasn’t lying when I said that I’d release what I had, even if I never finished the mod.

Let me introduce you to the Aether Suite. The Aether Suite is basically me compiling all the random locations I’ve made over the past 2 years into 1 unique location, which as usual is basically made for screenshooting. The Aether Suite includes Skyrim Academy and the Photographer’s Studio, though the means of accessing the Photographer’s Studio has been changed, and can now be accessed directly from the Aether Suite lobby, and not by running through the whole school. I’ve also expanded the Photographer’s Studio a little more. On top of that, of course, I have added Knox. I didn’t just merge the files and call it done, however.

To provide you with the best quality I can offer, I spent a hefty amount of time over the past couple of days fixing little bugs, replacing parts and even adding a little new mod smell to Knox, to make it an interesting place to visit, as well as a cool spot to snap some shots.

All this can be accessed from the newly added lobby, which I mentioned before. Each of the 3 locations have a door out of the main lobby, taking you to them. There’s also a note on the table which attempts rather poorly to make the mod seem like it’s lore friendly. We all know it’s not, but it’s nice to pretend.

So how do you reach the Aether Suite? Well, I also changed that. You won’t magically receive a spell to take you there, like you did with Skyrim Academy. You’ll have to find the spell tome in the Mages College, Hall of Attainment, poorly hidden under one of the upper floor beds. That spell will take you to the lobby, and you can proceed from there.

Regarding fast traveling from the locations. I believe you can still fast travel from The Academy, but I will be disabling this in later versions, because it doesn’t really make sense with the rest of the setup. For the rest, you can use the suspicious looking wall in the lobby to teleport back to the Hall of Attainment.

Regarding the scope of Knox, while it’s not inherently massive, there’s lots of little things to see, and more on offer than what you can see (or not see, in the case of block 4) in the video, so feel free to really explore on your first visit there. You might run into some cool stuff, or just find an extra area or two.

This doesn’t mean the end of The Academy, or Knox, or even the Photo Studio. It just means that they’re now all the same mod, and when I update the mod, you’re likely to get updates for all of them at once. There will continue to be expansions for all 3 modules, at my time permits.

Lastly, the download it pretty huge (400mb), and the install itself is 1.3gb in total. I assure you, this is already the optimised number. I’ve compressed and resized the hell out of the textures. This is as small as it gets, I’m afraid. If you don’t have the space, don’t install the mod. No one will hold it against you.

Video preview below, and download links follow the preview video. The video isn’t all of what’s on offer. Knox also doesn’t have to look this dark, that’s just the way I like my ENB.

Download: http://mod.dysintropi.me/mods/Skyrim/Aether%20Suite.7z

I hope you and your characters enjoy the mod!

Halo.

P.S. I fixed the missing texture issue in the video, so don’t worry.

Yes. This replaces Skyrim Academy. I should have mentioned that in the post.

And wait, what am I doing here in the first place? I’m all for immersion and lore friendliness… Ah, whatever.

Can you add some NPC students in the school as well please? Some fine lads and lasses from Akav… I mean, Japan. Maybe even voiced ones? “Ohayo, Dovakiin-kun!” and such.

Oh those doors. I left it because to my ears it sounds like clanking metal. I don’t know what wood you’ve heard, but wood doesn’t sound like that. That’s the sound of metal. It’s better than total silence, in my opinion.

I’ve had a bit of a play with Knox now, and as I said, it’s very good in terms of style and mod quality.

I know you’re going to add to it as time permits and in that regard, I’d love to see you add more spaces where people can relax, like a player home or even expanding on the bar that you’ve got in there.

Fun mod to run around and explore in. Theres a locked room in the school, past the Infirmary. Could I get a hint to where the key might be?

    • Halofarm January 18, 2014 10:01 pm  Reply

There’s no key. It’s just a little joke. Like there’s always one locked room in the school.

As soon as i stepped into Knox, i was blown away at the Sheer awesomeness that this mod was. I noticed that there was neon signs that indicated there would be other stores in future updates, i noticed a weapons store, a clothing store, some kind of hospital/potions store and a few others. The bar is also pretty cool. It would be supper awesome if you would add a player home that is Knox themed like a apartment.

I any case I think this is a wonderful mod and I’m looking forward to future updates.

I just wanna thank you for giving us this awesome and really amazing piece of work!

I ust wonder, can I play the Audio log? It’d be cool we could like play some sound snippets lol. The main street is nifty but it’s just like a connector? And my mid-range pc is really getting a huge fps hit on that area even in vanilla but it’s really cool. Reminds me of a Night-life in some Asian country. I really love this work!

    • Halofarm January 29, 2014 2:08 pm  Reply

You play the audio log by picking it up. It won’t work from your menu. When you pick it up off of the ground, let it play, because once you choose take, the log will stop.

As for the FPS hit, it’s probably because there’s a massive amount of stuff on the street. It’s rendering loads of buildings in the background. It may also be because of the texture resolutions, if you have a 1gb card, or lower, it will probably be hard to render. But yeah, Main Street is just a connector. It goes into Finnegan’s Bar and Board, and also The Warrens.

Halo hang in there, your mod’s are fantastic and with a bit of luck the new fallout 4 is going to use a modified and refined second edition of the skyrim game engine so it may be possible to port your models and textures across with minimal fuss and of course it is a game with gun mechanics and robot’s ready made, If this is the case not only would your mod be one of the best early mod’s but one of the best mod’s full stop for a very long time, bethesda are keeping it under wraps but from what little we have seen it look’s good, while it look’s at the moment to be using ported fallout 3 and new vegas models with your mod it would get a much needed boost to it’s feel, especially if you keep the alternate time line idea.
I have downloaded though and can’t wait to try it but you have always been among the best modders.
So don’t let it die just take it a prototype for you new fallout 4 mod.

  16. LABTECH February 10, 2014 3:29 pm  Reply

Oh and you could probably port the skyrim magic system (which will likely be there under the skin anyway) and make your mod into a deus ex type mod with multi dimensional nanotechnology or something to explain how you character can suddenly spout fire and sonic implants for the shout’s.

          • Halofarm November 25, 2015 10:34 am

            yeah, just coc aethersuitelobby

That’ll do the same job as the spell, or if you’re worried you’ll forget the coc code, you can do help aether and add the spell from the list.

Hey I’m new to your mods since I recently left XBOX for PC after SSE came out. However, these are amazing. All of your mods are. I can’t wait to see more of your work. I was testing to see if my followers could actually live in the suite, I have 16 total and every time I went back to the suite from Skyrim while my followers were relaxing there in the academy area, I CTD. I had hoped to do play on SAO where me and my followers actually lived in the Suite in reality and we all would log on with VR gear and play skyrim. The Mod itself was fully functional with all 16 followers in the academy area though. Plus I’m using animated backpacks and other animated armor mods which may be conflicting as far as my CTD issue goes. I just posted that in case anyone was wondering about max followers in the suite. Thanks for your hard work and I am going to donate to you so the great work keeps continuing

    • Halofarm January 13, 2017 4:03 pm  Reply

You’re overloading your hardware. It’s not specifically an aether suite thing, but the Academy area is actually the heaviest spot by far. Add 16 followers worth of VRAM usage and that’s an explosive combination. I personally can’t handle more than 6, anywhere, in any mod, because I only have 2gb of VRAM. So that’s some food for thought. You’re putting a heck of a lot into one of the most resource intensive areas. Not to mention, animated gear is a lot more intensive as well.

    • Halofarm February 22, 2017 12:19 am  Reply

The only hints I’ll give you are that one of them is sitting hidden behind a wave radio SOMEWHERE, and another is actually in an openable container. The rest are actually in view in their respective locations.

Also, there’s none past Green Emperor Ward. You won’t find any in the Black Streets or the Undercity.

That’s awesome! I’ll definitely grab it up. I won’t be using it as a resource though. The AS is my own project of personally made assets and locations. The only stuff I didn’t make myself are clothes, so it will always just be my own personal work in the AS. This is cool though. I’ll be sure to let others know about it too.

      • Halofarm March 3, 2017 11:03 am  Reply

Hm. I downloaded it twice to make sure. I seem to be missing some textures in some places, and I also got corrupt nif crashes when trying to load into the “home int” area.

Hello. the mod you provide is awesome.
I’m reporting here some perfomance issues in the hotel, and walking around in the dining hall room part of the hotel frequently leads me to a crash to desktop.

    • Halofarm March 9, 2017 9:10 pm  Reply

The hotel has a lot of high poly meshes, particularly in the courtyard, which can lead to lower performance. I’ve already optimised the meshes as far as I am willing. As for the dining hall, no one else has reported CTDs there, so it may be a localised issue. I don’t know of any particular reasons the dining hall specifically would cause you CTDs.

It works fine and looks lovely, except my character’s always ankle-deep in the ground. I’d assume it’s an issue with the mod as it doesn’t happen outside of it.

Well, considering it’s not true for me, any of my testers, or external machines I’ve used the mod on, I would have to say you should look elsewhere for your answer. There’s no known issue with the collision in this mod. No one’s ever reported this until you, and it’s been around for 2 or 3 years now.
